John Lee was hired by the MBTA in August 1994 as a part-time bus driver at the Arborway/Bartlett Street Garage. Brother Lee was promoted to full-time in 1998 and was elected as Barn Captain, serving in that capacity from 2002 through 2007.

John Lee was elected by the membership as Vice President/Assistant Business Agent of the Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589 in December 2007. John was elected as a Delegate to the ATU International Convention in 2004 and again in 2007. Brother Lee also serves as a Delegate representing Local 589 at the Massachusetts AFL-CIO as well as the Plymouth & Bristol Central Labor Council. 

Additionally, John has served as an member of the Executive Board to the New England Joint Conference of ATU Unions and as the Massachusetts / New Hampshire Political Coordinator for the AFL-CIO. He is an Honorary Member of the Retired Transit Workers Association and a Graduate of the Labor Guild School of Industrial Relations. 

John lives in Randolph and has a son – Danny Boy.
