Terry Reed was hired by the MBTA in August 1978 as a bus driver. 

Brother Reed is a graduate of the Labor Guild School and attended Savannah State College.

In December 2007, Terry Reed made history as the first African American elected to full-time union office when he won the Delegate from Division One.

An active member of Local 589, Brother Reed has been elected Delegate to the ATU International Convention.
