MBTA looking to crack down on assaults on women riding the T

3/20/08 - Transit police are going under cover to catch gropers who assault women on the T.

Officials are hoping the new campaign will get more women to come forward if they are attacked on the subway.

According to the Boston Herald, there were 87 total cases of indecent assault and battery incidents in 2006 and 2007. Reports show a wide range of lurid attacks by predators, to grinding against them, and grabbing and groping their breasts, buttocks and crotches.

To date this year, 10 such incidents have been reports, about the same as last year, the Boston Herald reported.

By going public with their undercover work, transit police hope more victims will report assaults. Reports would allow investigators to know which subway lines and stations need the most attention.
