Massachusetts candidates for federal, state and county office endorsed by the Boston Carmen's Union Local 589 had strong showings in the September 16th Democratic Primary.

U.S. Senator John Kerry and a number of incumbent State Representatives including Paul Donato, Stephen Smith, Willie Mae Allen, Mike Rush, Hank Naughton, Marie St. Fleur, Linda Dean Campbell, Pam Richardson and Joe Driscoll won re-election. Incumbent Governor's Councilors Kelly Timilty and Marilyn Petitto Devaney were returned to office

Fire Fighters Union member Ken Donnelly and State Representative Jennifer Flanagan had strong showings to win open State Senate seats along with State Rep. Tom Kennedy who was unchallenged for the 2nd Bristol & Plymouth State Senate seat. First time candidates Jim Arciero, Jen Benson and Danielle Gregoire won contested State Representative primaries as well.

Local 589 member Ed Mills was unsuccessful in his Democratic Primary run for State Representative in the 8th Middlesex District. Brother Mills had strong support from Local 589 and Organized Labor across the board.
